ITEC DIPLOMA IN SPORTS MASSAGE

1 module to include 1 written paper, Practical Exam and Case Studies

This course is for qualified massage therapists who have completed their
diploma in Holistic Massage and Anatomy & Physiology or equivalent

Course content:

• Changes that occur during exercise to the muscular system, origin and action of muscles, the effects of massage on muscle and other soft tissue
• The possible stresses and strains put on the spine and other joints in sporting activities.
• The principals of training / explain over training and of force & motion.
• Injury prevention & management and the preventative & rehabilitative training to reinforce massage treatments.
• The use of stretching massage movements, the signs & symptoms of inflammation and scar tissue
• The techniques of thermotherapy & cryotherapy (ICER) and the rationale for choice.
• The possible damage to the skin as a result of sporting activities on different types of surfaces, with regard to clothing, shoes, exposure to the sun, wind and other elements.

In addition to course contents, Embody will arrange for students to attend a real sports injuries clinic and assist in the application of treatments to genuine fee paying clients and organise for sports clubs to facilitate students to attend training nights and home matches so they can practice their newly learned techniques on real players in a real-life environment. The course will also include relevant first aid training to sports and clinical environments and include Taping and Strapping techniques specific to sports injuries.

Embody has established relationships with Irelands leading sporting organisations which gives us unique access to temporary and full time placements of under and post graduates.

Stefano Manassero Sport Massage Tutor - Hailing from Venice in Italy Stefano was Senior Therapist to Bohemians F.C. for 8 years. Stefano  practices in first aid, sport therapies, injury management and rehabilitation, gym instruction and nutrition at his very successful  Sports & Health Clinic in Swords. www.applehealthdublin.com   

Stefano has also worked for a number of celebrities such as Ralph Fiennes, Aidan Quinn, Jane Seymore, Kevin Spacey and more.

His qualifications  include: Neuro Muscular Therapy Sport Massage, Myofascial Trigger Points, Dry Needling, Body building Instructor, Fitness Instructor, Yoga and Pilates Teacher, Personal Trainer, Holistic Massage and Reflexology. He also has qualifications in Energize for Exercise Sport Nutrition with the University of East London and Occupational First Aid with St John’s Ambulance

Stefano will be running sport therapy weekend workssops for post graduates of sport massage throughout the year.
